In India Men travel in over crowded trains, ladies train ran empty. So railways decided to allow few general coaches in ladies train. But female travelers created ruckus, leading to withdrawal of decision. Male passengers who had to travel in overcrowded trains decided to demand justice & equality as happened in Montgomery.
Around 1950 in Montgomery the seats in the bus were segregated. The front rows were meant only for whites while any seats if vacant could be used by blacks. In case the bus was running full with whites in the front and blacks in the rear and more whites came in at some stop, the blacks in the foremost row were expected to vacate their seat and travel standing.
Though blacks resented this discrimination it continued unabated till one day Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat for a white person to sit. She got arrested for refusing to adhere to this discriminatory segregation. She was found guilty and asked to pay fine plus court cost. Though Rosa parks incident was not the first such incident but the resentment among blacks was already near the tipping point. She received strong public support to end the discriminatory segregation and she decided to appeal against the order. Blacks got organized and boycotted the bus service. The protest reached to such extent that pressure came from across the country. The movement kept growing and after more than a year of protest and legal battle, the segregation practice was put to end.
Though the Montgomery segregation practice may appear as outrageously stupid and discriminatory, it was practiced openly at that time. But, you will be surprised that a similar practice still takes place in India. Just the characters have changed. The whites have been replaced by women and the discriminated blacks have been replaced by men. Indian transport services have seats and coaches reserved for women. There are entire buses, metros and even trains totally reserved for women. A male passenger is not allowed to board even fully empty coaches of such vehicles. If some men get into these coaches even by mistake they are penalized and even arrested. Such discrimination doesn't exist in any other country. They only have seats where first right to sit is for the disabled, elderly or pregnant.
In India normal coaches where men have to travel are so crowded that it’s difficult even to enter inside and get out, let alone standing or getting place to sit. While on the other hand the coaches for women are mostly vacant. Some men tried to object to such discrimination by trying to travel in ladies coach of Delhi metro. Though I have shared one video of such incident, it happens daily across various parts of this nation across every mode of transport. It was also shameful that the news reported this discrimination as acceptable.
Indian men cannot enter in a bus, train, metro coach reserved for women but women can definitely enter any coach whether or not reserved for women. So women not only use the ladies coaches but also enter the coaches used by men, though already overcrowded. Along with friends etc such women harass other men to give them space. This increases inconvenience of passengers in already overcrowded coach. Further aggravating the problem are women pickpockets who flick valuables of male travelers and easily get away, as men rarely dare to catch a lady pick pocket fearing fake molestation case.
A Montgomery type of movement appears to have started in Indian town Kolkata. In that city also, normal trains used for commuting are already full to brim. While train like Matrubhumi that are reserved for females, run 70% empty. So the railways made an economical decision to add few general coaches in this ladies train for increasing ticket sales. But the female supremacist could not tolerate such a decision. On Monday 17 Aug 15 they decided to block the Khardah station to protest against men being allowed to board the Matribhumi Ladies Special train. About 150 female supremacist stopped train movement and detained 31602 Dn Ranaghat-Sealdah Matribhumi. It further caused other 20 pairs of local trains getting stranded. The railway officials gave in to such arm twisting tactics and reversed the decision to add general coaches to the ladies train. But such a short sighted move of giving in to bullying by radical feminist had to have its repercussion.
On Monday 24th August 15 group of passengers who wanted to restore equality tried to board a Sealdah-bound Matribhumi local from Bongaon at Habra station around 7.45am but women shoved them out. So the aggrieved people sat on tracks to protest. The protest grew and soon spread to eight stations and trains plying from these stations got stranded. Few people showed protest against discrimination by writing Pitrubhumi (male word for matribhumi) on the Matrubhumi trains. The peaceful protestors where canned by police, this aggravated the protestors leading to stone pelting.
Two days have passed but the railway authorities have not yet taken any positive action. The ladies coaches are still running empty while men are still travelling in hazardous condition on overcrowded coaches. Men were been arrested and thrown in jail because they refused to accept discrimination due to female supremacists. Delhi male travelers were also arrested for the same thing. This has to be stopped. Men have rights too, for if Men did not ride such buses, trains or metros they could not operate. Three-fourths of the riders are men, yet men are arrested, or have to stand over empty seats. If men do not do something to stop these arrests, they will continue. The next time it may be you, or your son, or father. I, therefore, ask every man to get organized and stay off such public transport at least for one day as peaceful form of protest. Choose Men’s day 19 November for protest of the arrest and trial. Don't ride the buses to work, to town, to school, or anywhere on that day. You can afford to stay out of school & office for one day if you have no other way to go except by discriminatory public transport. You can also afford to stay out of town for one day. If you work, take a cab, or walk. But please, children and grown-ups, don't ride the any such transport at all on 19 Nov 15. People may choose a different day too but protesting against discrimination in important
